Gmail Shortcuts To Save Work Time.

Gmail has become the most popular email service provider. It provides 15 GB of storage, controls less spam (having spam filtering capabilities), and is available on the mobile device. Gmail makes working with e-mails an effortless and pleasant experience.
There are many Gmail shortcuts which most of us hardly use, but if we use them, it can make the Google Mail experience better. Here are the ones I find really effective.

1. Keyboard shortcuts

These work on the fundamental rule – “working with the keyboard is always faster than working with mouse”.
For using these shortcuts one has to turn the Keyboard Shortcuts Option ON, available in Gmail settings.
Numerous shortcuts are available. Let’s have a look at a few:
ShortcutsExecution
cComposing a new mail
eArchiving mails
rReplying
fForwarding
shift + uMarking emails as unread
shift + iMarking all the selected mails as read
*nDeselecting all emails
j/kMoving to new or older emails
lLabelling
g aGo to all mail
g dGo to drafts
g iGo to inbox
[enter]Go into the thread pointed to by the cursor
xSelect/deselect the current thread pointed to by the cursor

2. Search operation shortcuts for easy and faster searching

Gmail supports refined searches making search process fast and precise. A few tricks can help you search for almost anything (mails, attachments, drafts etc.)
from : [e-mail of the sender] – will get you a list of all emails from that particular sender.
filename : pdf – it helps to find emails with pdf attachments
has : [attachment] – it gets you an email with a particular attachment
is : unread – it gets a list of all the emails marked as unread
larger : [size of email] – it finds all the emails that are larger than the size stated
“[text]” – it finds the emails with text that match exactly the stated text
after : [date] – it finds the emails sent or received after the particular date.
The above stated search operators, when combined together, works wonderfully to make your search more specific, for instance,
from : [e-mail of the sender] larger : [size of email] – finds all the emails from that particular sender with a size larger than specified.
“[text]” after : [date] – it finds the emails with text that match exactly the stated text sent / received after the particular date.

3. Adding signatures

Gmail provides with the option of adding a signature automatically to all the outgoing mails. It thus helps saving time consumed in adding a signature to each mail individually.
One can add a signature by going to Settings > General and scroll down the Signature section. A formatting window will appear with tools for formatting signature. Signature can be created with images, links, bullets, etc.
Tip – Though HTML codes cannot be used as signature, but one can copy- paste HTML content directly in the Gmail Signature area provided and it will be automatically appended at the end of all the outgoing messages.

4. Right-click menu box

When one right-clicks on a message in the inbox, a drop down menu appears. One can archive, delete, or mark a message as read/unread.

5. Canned responses option

The “canned responses” feature available on Gmail gives the option of saving e-mail templates, thus saving our time of composing the same message again.
One has to go to Settings > Labs and enable “Canned Responses” and the messages can be saved as a template. Gmail provides the option of overwriting these saved templates. The saved template can be inserted into a new compose email window with one-click.

6. Preview Pane option

This feature of Gmail allows you to read all your messages in a new preview pane. One does not have to open message to read its content which helps in saving a lot of time. This feature is extremely useful for the users working on large screen. With small screen available reading space becomes small making it a little difficult to read the text.
One has to go to Settings > Labs and enable “Preview Pane” and a new button will appear to change the layout of the inbox, allowing to split the inbox horizontally / vertically.

7. Quick links

As the name suggests, it helps to get to links in just a few clicks. Quick links add a new widget in the inbox providing one-click access to any Gmail URL.
One has to go to Settings > Labs and enable “Quick links”. A new box will get added to the left sidebar and you can add any Gmail URL (specific message, advanced search result, label, etc.) as quick links.

8. Setting default reply to all

If one has to send a reply to all the e-mail address available, he / she should immediately change setting to “Reply to all”. It prevents you from selecting each recipient manually, one by one. And you do not miss any of them.
One has to go to Settings > General and scroll down to “Default reply behavior” section to enable “Reply all”. Gmail will make it a point that “Reply to all” option is automatically selected when one tries to reply message to multiple recipients.

9. Selecting all email in a label/page

One can select all the emails under a label/page with one click (you do not have to select them one by one manually). Selecting the checkbox at the top will help you select all the emails on that page.

10. Switching multiple Gmail accounts

Often working and switching to multiple accounts is time taking. One has to log out from one account and login to the other. Gmail provides a shortcut to this.
If one has multiple Gmail accounts, switching to another account can be done directly, without logging out of the current account. One has to click profile picture at the top right corner and click “Add Account” button to login to another Gmail account.
The Gmail inbox URLs for your accounts will look like as below:
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox
https://mail.google.com/mail/u/2/#inbox

11. Undo a sent email

It does happen that after clicking the send option, you realize that you need to make some changes in the email / the mail was not to be sent. Gmail provides you with the option of “undo” the mail sent.
One has to go to Settings > General and enable “Undo Send”. An option is available providing the option of up to 30 seconds to undo the last sent mail. One can also adjust the cancellation period from Settings > General.

Security tips for Web Bloggers to stay protect online

Nowadays, people access blogs for exchanging ideas with others. Bloggers retain their blogs and constantly update them either for financial benefits of just out of passion.

Worldwide Blogging is considered as a serious business by many people as for some it is the main source of income, while other bloggers just get some extra income out of it. Keeping this in mind and also the fact that blogs are considered being the 5th most trustworthy source of information that you can find on the internet, if you own a blog you should definitely consider any available options for protecting it.

Malware infection on blogsMalware infection is a common “harm” that can be caused to your blog, believe it or not, as cyber criminals are very creative in doing their malicious work. Some sources of infection for your blog can be:

  • Your web hosting control panel
  • Infected advertisement banners
  • Breaking the administrator password
  • Code injections in the blog’s HTML
  • Plugins integrating with your blogging platform

Checking whether your blog is infectedWhen you created your blog, you may had thought that marketing and writing skills are all you needed to have. Well that would be wrong. A blog owner needs to know how to keep the blog data protected and which measures to take for staying protected against cyber-attacks. You can define whether your blog is infected by the presence of these symptoms:

  • The appearance of your blog has changed and your content and graphics replaced by others (website defacement).
  • Your blog’s visitors are prompted to download and install apps like Java or Flash player just upon their visit to the blog’s page.
  • You receive an error message when you try to access the blog.
  • You see banners about guns, drugs etc. appearing.
  • Immediately when you try to access the blog you get redirected to another site (URL redirects).
  • You receive notifications from your hosting providers about spam alerts coming from your site.
Here are 7 important tips for keeping your blog secure

1) Set strong passwords
Any accounts that are connected to your blog should have a strong password while you should avoid using the same password (despite its complexity) for all your accounts and apply 2 factor authentication. All the above should be combined with frequent password changes.

2) Control access to the blogYou should create a new administrator account and delete the existing default one as the cyber criminals tend to target these accounts. You also need to define the access rights for all the user accounts and delete those that belong to users to post irrelevant content.

3) Maintain an updated blogging platformBe sure to immediately apply any updates that are released for your platform as these will also close any recently discovered security holes.

4) Regularly backup your blogYour blog’s database needs to be regularly backed-up, so be sure to include this in your schedule. This can be done either with the use of a web hosting package (which includes automatic back-ups) or can be performed manually. At least 2 copies of the blog’s database should be retained.

5) Update your pluginsAlways keep your plugins updated as cyber criminals will use the vulnerabilities that exist for harming your blog and also delete any old plugins that you don’t use anymore.

6) Use only themes from trusted sourcesIf you plan to install a theme that was not obtained from a trusted source, just don’t as you risk of having malicious code installed on your website.

7) Protect your computer from malwareWhile ensuring your blog’s security is important, retaining a clean and safe computer, equipped with a good antivirus and a malware blocking tool is important too and of course always keeping it up to date by installing the latest application and security updates.

Things You Didn't Know Your iPhone Could Do

Even though we use our iPhones all day every day, there are still a handful of features that are relatively unknown. Some of these features are buried in the Settings menu while others are hidden in plain sight.Whether it’s downloading top-notch apps, listening to music on iTunes or asking Siri for help, there’s never a shortage of neat things you can do on your iPhone. But here are a few fun tricks you probably didn’t know your device was capable of.

Emoji Shortcuts

Did you know your iPhone lets you type out your emojis with shortcuts? Say you’ve created a shortcut named “heartz” for the heart emoji; this means every time you type in “heartz” in a message, the aforementioned emoji will immediately appear. It sure beats the hassle of switching keyboards. Click here to see how it’s done.

Snap Pics with Your Headphones

One super-easy trick that many people still don’t know: once you’ve launched the iPhone camera app you can tap the Volume Up (+) button on your headphones to take a picture. It’s perfect for snapping selfies or pics from afar. You can also use them to ignore calls, prompt Siri, rewind a song and more – click here to learn more about the hidden controls of the iPhone headphones.

Shake It Out

Don’t like what you just typed? Just shake your iPhone to get rid of it. Once you do, you’ll have the option to Undo Typing. You can shake it once more to Redo Typing, in case you change your mind. This even works if you’ve accidentally archived or deleted an email. Simply shake your phone to Undo Archive or Undo Trash.

Read It Off-Line

Want to save an online article to read later? Press down on the page and wait for a menu to pop up. Then tap Add to Reading List. Your article is then saved to your Reading List, which is located within the Bookmarks icon in Safari’s navigation bar. The best part is that you can access this list off-line. So, you’ll be able to read all your saved articles even when you don’t have INTERNET access.

Up In the Air

Even if you’re not in the air, you should turn your device on Airplane Mode while it’s charging. Why? Because with all the data cut off, your iPhone will charge a lot faster. It comes in handy when you’re running low on juice and need a quick charge.

To the Right, To the Right

Forget back buttons. From the edge of the screen, swipe to the right to go back to your previous page. It works in Mail, Messages, Safari and even on certain apps like Instagram.

Use Siri to Tweet

Siri has your back when it comes to keeping up with your social media updates. Command her to Post a Tweet and she’ll do it for you. Just be sure your device is logged in to your Twitter account first. Click here to see how it’s done.

Custom Vibrations

Custom ringtones are fun, but if your iPhone is usually set to vibrate, you may get more out of setting up custom vibrations. To do this, select someone from your Contacts List and tap Edit. Scroll down to Vibration. You can choose from stock vibrations like Heartbeat, Rapid and S.O.S or choose Create New Vibration to make your own pattern. Click here to learn more about custom vibrations.

Turn Off Read Receipts

If you don’t want others to know when you’ve read their messages, simply disable Read Receipts. Go to your Settings, tap Messages and then turn off the Send Read Receipts function. It’s as easy as that.

Useful Tips and Tricks for iPad Users

The iPad is a great tool for both entertainment and productivity. To get the most out of it, however, you have to know its secrets, and here are 10 of the best ones:

1: Using the sidebar
According to Time, the iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro sport a cool new feature: the ability to open apps up in a special sidebar without leaving your existing app. All you have to do is swipe a finger from the right to bring up a list of all apps compatible with this feature. Click your desired app and begin multitasking right away!

2: Use your iPad as a virtual card table
Many people don’t realize the amount of traditional tabletop games that the iPad can replace – including a deck of cards! According to Business Insider, the Card Table app allows users to view their hand of cards on their compatible smartphones and use the iPad as a virtual table. Just like that, you’ve got the fun of 52 cards without the worry of picking them up!

3: Hands-free messaging
According to Apple’s own website, one of the simplest iPad tricks is to let Siri handle your messaging. She interacts with your contact list and allows you to send messages by referencing a person’s name, such as telling the iPad “Tell Brad that dinner is at 6:00.” This is great when your hands are occupied by those same dinner preparations.

4: Never stop watching video
From cute cat videos to insightful instructions, we live in a world where video dominates everything. It’s annoying to stop what you are watching to accomplish more mundane tasks like responding to emails. According to Time, the iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro let you do both at the same time. Simply press the home button when you are watching videos or using Facetime and the video minimizes to the bottom right corner of the screen while you use other apps.

5: Instant exposure adjustment
One of the greatest abilities of the iPad is to take photos and immediately edit them. With iOS , adjusting exposure is easier than ever. According to Apple, you simply tap where you want to establish the automatic exposure and focus. Then, all you have to do is slide your fingers up and down to adjust the picture’s exposure.

6: Create a second monitor
According to Business Insider, you can use apps such as Air Display 2 to create a second monitor. This is great for those who want extra productivity or just want to double their onscreen fun, all for a fraction of the price of an actual new monitor.

7: Browse all of your files anywhere, anytime
The Apple website notes that the iCloud drive app allows you to browse and open all of your files via compatible applications on your iPad. This helps save time and space in not having to keep the files you want on your iPad at all times.

8: Use virtual buttons

No one likes to imagine their shiny new iPad getting damaged. After all, a broken button can feel like a death sentence for electronics. However, Business Insider notes you can enable Assistive Touch and begin creating virtual buttons for things like the home button, volume buttons, and screen lock buttons. This ensures your device can live long past its outer shell!

9: Sketch on your iPad

Whether it’s killing time in a classroom or laying the conceptual foundation for your next work of art, sketching is a time-honored pencil and paper tradition. As the Apple website notes, you can keep this tradition alive on your iPad as well by using the drawing tools in the Notepad app. This lets you use your finger to doodle. Mess up your sketch? The eraser is just a touch away!

10: Read more easily at night
It doesn't take long for iPad users to see that reading at night can be downright painful as read black letters against a blinding background. Business Insider notes you can go to your Accessibility settings and invert colors. Now, the background is black and the letters are white, making night reading a breeze!

How to choose the right ERP software ?

There are thousands of so called ERP experts out there. But the truth is no one understands your business like you do. You may be one of the few that has reviewed and evaluated ERP programs extensively before.

With so many ERP options in the marketplace today, selecting a package for your business can be an overwhelming task. While many companies feel that any software will work and their organizations will simply conform to the functionality of the software, widely-publicized ERP failures indicate that this isn't the best solution. Further, since ERP should be a transformational business initiative providing key competitive advantages to your company, the decision shouldn't be taken lightly or made with incomplete information.

So what's the best way to find the ERP solution that's going to be the best fit for your organization? Here are seven steps to help you choose the right software for your organization:

software for your organization:

Conduct a process review and analysis. Since ERP is first and foremost a business initiative, you should first define and document your current business processes, pain points, and strengths. This analysis should also include what you think your processes should look like in the future (your "to-be" state) and the corresponding business requirements. These processes and requirements should eventually be used for potential software vendors to demonstrate their product's capabilities within the context of your business needs.

Evaluate the technical fit. Although ERP should be a business rather than a technology initiative, it's also important to understand how a potential software solution will align with your current infrastructure. For example, if you're a Microsoft shop, you're likely to find a better technical fit with ERP software products built on a .NET platform.

Understand the total cost of ownership. During the sales cycle, ERP software sales reps are interested in downplaying the costs and risks associated with purchasing their software. However, it's a lot easier to accept potential costs early in the process rather than after you're already committed to a particular solution. Be sure to uncover "hidden costs" associated with ERP, including implementation costs, hardware upgrades, backfilling your project team resources, software maintenance, etc.

Develop a realistic implementation plan. While you're still in the sales cycle, you should take vendor implementation duration estimates with a grain of salt. It's important to develop a comprehensive project plan that includes not just the activities required to install the software, but the ones that are required to ensure that the solution is fully functional, tested, and accepted by end-users. This plan should be developed prior to your final software decision so you fully understand the cost and resource commitments required to make the project a success.

Your implementation project plan should include everything from business process and workflow design to data migration, conference room pilot, multiple test iterations, and key organizational change management activities.

Track the potential business benefits of the new system. If you don't measure it, you likely won't achieve it. ERP projects are no different. Chances are your organization is looking at ERP as a way to reduce costs, increase revenue, or scale for growth, and you should estimate and measure benefits against these metrics if you are going to realize the full potential of ERP.

Keep your options open. While this may sound more like dating advice, it's also relevant to choosing an ERP package. Contrary to common belief, there are more than just two to three primary ERP software vendors. Although two to three software vendors constitute a majority of market share and marketing dollars, there are at least 70 viable ERP software solutions in the market, all with varying degrees of functionality and strengths.
Too many companies choose a solution based on brand name or based on what competitors are doing. Instead, organizations need to consider the options that are going to best meet their unique business requirements and sources of competitive advantage.

Look for objective and independent advice. Ask colleagues, employees, and other contacts what they use or recommend for a company like yours. Conduct research on the internet or hire an ERP consultant if necessary. In any case, don't assume you have all the answers if you don't have experience with ERP. Find other sources of independent ERP advice to validate what you're hearing from software sales reps.

With these seven steps, you and your organization will be much more likely to be one of the ERP success stories rather than one of the ERP nightmares we've all read about.

Tips to avoid damage to battery while charging phone

A battery is the most important component of any smart phone. There are some phone batteries that take seconds to charge and at the same time, it takes seconds to drain. This can be very annoying because it limits you the things you can do with your phone like taking selfies, listening to music and watching videos. Therefore, it is important to charge your phone properly in order to prevent the damage of your battery or its quick charge.

Always use the charger that comes with your phone
If you bought a new phone, it is better to always use the charger that came with your phone whenever you want to charge. But if you bought fairly used, do not just buy any charger. Using any charge to charge your phone can damage your gadget or battery.

Keep your phone cool, dry place
The position you place your battery is important. Do not place it in a hot place for example, where the rays of the sun can reach it. Your battery will drain faster when it is hot. As a caveat, it is better you unplug it when it is hot and always disconnect it whenever it is fully charged.

    Don't Calibrate your Battery
Calibrating your battery means that you want your android phone to properly report the percentage charge of your of your device. Many phone users calibrate their phones when it moves from nearly full to nearly empty. Notwithstanding, you do not need to calibrate your battery. It is either you replace your battery or use it like that. If you rely on calibration to boost your battery, it can destroy your battery and device.

However, what we can tell you is the right way to charge your phone, courtesy the tips shared by Google. Here is what Google says about charging your phone and the best possible way to do so in a bid to enhance the life of battery.

Also Read:Innovative Ways of Using a Smart phone

Use the charger that came with your phone. Google says that other charger may charge slowly, not at all, or damage your device or battery.

There is a saying that when you get a new phone, you should calibrate its battery. Google says it is rubbish. "You don't need to teach your device how much capacity the battery has by going from totally charged to completely drained," says the company.

You should keep your phone cool. The heat is an enemy of battery. It drains battery faster, and it sucks away its life. So according to Google, avoid situations where your device can overheat. "Your battery will drain much faster when it's hot, even if you're not using it, and this can even damage your battery.
Keep in mind that your device warms up when it's plugged in, so try not to keep it charging all the time," says the company. To add to this, we feel this tip is particularly important in places like Delhi where in summer ambient temperature can touch 40-degrees if you are not in an environment cooled with an AC.

Try to keep the battery half full. Or as Google says it, "For the best battery lifespan, try to keep your battery charged above 50 per cent as much as possible." And in Guru Google, we trust!

Doctors must have told you that binge eating is bad. And so are hunger pangs. Apparently, it is true for smartphones too. This means, you should regularly give your phone bite-size battery charge. "Small charges throughout the day are best for battery health. Battery lifespan can suffer if it's charged from zero to full and then completely drained on a regular basis," says Google.

At time we need to store the phone for prolonged period. In such instances Google believes that the phone should be stored with battery half full.
